French Impressionist Painter, 1841-1919 French painter, printmaker and sculptor. He was one of the founders and leading exponents of IMPRESSIONISM from the late 1860s, producing some of the movement's most famous images of carefree leisure. He broke with his Impressionist colleagues to exhibit at the Salon from 1878, and from c. 1884 he adopted a more linear style indebted to the Old Masters. Auguste Couder
(1 April 1790 in Paris - 21 July 1873 in Paris) was a French painter and student of Jean-Baptiste Regnault and Jacques Louis David. He joined the Academie des beaux-arts in 1839 and was an officer of the Legion d'honneur. He married Cornelie Stouf, daughter of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Stouf. Couder was buried in the cemetery of Pere-Lachaise.
Giacomo Guardi
(1764-1835) was an Italian painter from Venice. The son of famous veduta painter Francesco Guardi, he continued his father's line of work, though without the same level of renown. The majority of his works are quite small views of only minor artistic interest, more akin to postcards than to his father's grand scenes, but he produced several paintings showcasing a notable level of artistic skill as well. Evaluating his legacy is somewhat complicated due to the frequency with which paintings are misattributed to him.
